About Cleo

A born and raised NYer, Apryl Bruce was always encouraged to “hitch your wagon to a star”. Born to Helen & Charles Bruce - a registered nurse and mechanic; it’s been my natural instinct to roll up my sleeves and get involved.
What’s in the name?
Cleo: I was named by, a NYC break dancer, Alien Ness. We had been on a blaxploitation kick. After watching Cleopatra Jones (1973) which stars Tamara Dobson as a karate-chopping government agent. The film marked the beginning of a subgenre of blaxploitation films which focused on strong female leads who took an active role in shootouts and fights. She was 6’ tall and dope. All I was missing was the afro.
For the past 15+ years Cleopatra Jonez has worn many hats - poet, events coordinator, & metalsmith.
My obsession with lotions and potions has landed me in the kitchen. I started making my own products because my bank account couldn’t keep up with my obsession. After watching a roommate whipping up her own version of body butter, I figured that I would do the same. One thing led to another and then POW - Cleo’s Cabinet was born.
